THE MADNESS OF CROWDS
Des Lambert/Gavin Lambert/Rob Flanagan
The shopkeeper closed up,
A town turned it's nose up,
He never cried when his mother died, they say.
Began with a rumour,
And spread like a tumour,
His choice of song, it gave the game away.
It's only rock ‘n' roll,
It's never gonna change the world,
And I'm tired of this town.
Another hero dies,
The cheers are drowning out the cries,
I look around at The Madness Of Crowds.
A shopkeeper moved on,
The high street improved on,
But fingers point, and heads begin to nod.
A town grows suspicious,
The gossip malicious,
For no-one here's above the law of God.
It's only kiss ‘n' tell,
I hear the Chinese whisper well,
But I'm tired of this town,
Another hero dies,
The cheers are drowning out the cries,
I look around at the madness…
The story just plays on,
McCarthy to Salem,
You're Communist or just a Witch by day.
Now let's keep a vigil,
And watch each individual,
For signs that they may deviate or stray.
It's only rock ‘n' roll,
It's never gonna change the world,
And I'm tired of this town.
Another hero dies,
The cheers are drowning out the cries,
I look around at the madness of crowds.
